Permanent Account? Icon Spaces?
hsapiens @ 04:09pm
I see that permanent accounts are again available -- as are "insane user pics." I'm having trouble finding a definition of "insane user pics." Does anyone know what they are? Is that the 5K user pics I've seen mentioned?
I'm hesitant to buy a permanent account, much as I want one, because paid account means I'm a regular source of funds for IJ rather than a one-time infusion. I have an insatiable hunger for icons, though, and I'll pay for more. Even if it means switching to a permanent account. I've looked through the FAQ about paid/permanent accounts but nothing about the insane user pics.
I'd bet there was an announcement that I missed. Anyone have a link?

Yoga Still Kicks My Ass
hsapiens @ 11:58pm
Every Monday is yoga night. It has been for several months now. I'm in level 1A, which is sort of like training wheels yoga, and it's kicking my ass. I enjoy it but some of the things we do? Jee-zus. Sometimes they're difficult things and I'm okay with not being up to it. I'm simply nowhere near being ready to do a handstand so I'm okay with sucking at attempting them. (I do NOT want to think about what upper level yoga students are doing. Pinky stands? Wrapping both legs around their necks?)
It's when the move is easy that I despair. Like tonight. During one of our rest periods, we're supposed to sit back on our heels with our toes flexed under our feet. This is supposed to stretch the bottoms of our feet. Wrong. I feel no stretch. What I do feel is intense agony in the knuckles between my big toes and my feet.
In a former life, I was an archaeologist. An archaeologist whose specialty was analyzing human remains, in fact. I regularly analyzed how a person's life wrote itself on his or her bones. You can tell that someone kneeled a lot during life with her feet in that hyperdorsiflexion position because it deformed the bones. Finding it in a skeleton? Way cool talking point. Having it in my own body? Totally not cool pain point.
Every Monday night for a couple of five minute periods isn't enough to deform my metatarsals radically but the changes it causes are associated with osteoarthritis in that joint in older individuals. A couple of hours after finishing the class, those joints hurt. I think that's a move I'm going to have to pass on in future sessions -- but I hate being such a wimp over something like *kneeling.*
I feel compelled to report that I'm not a complete loser in the kneeling department because after that we kneel with our feet pointed rather than flexed and that's 100% comfortable to me. :)

Seen with
feralcatboy, the only other person I've met who has never seen an episode of Seinfeld.
( I've seen some of a lot of shows but for very few have I seen all of a show )
For most shows, I have to own the DVDs if I'm going to see all of them. Otherwise, I might catch a show when channel-surfing. Very few shows will I remember to watch on a certain day, at a certain time, or a certain channel. Babylon 5 was an exception. I not only followed it religiously but I bought cable so that I could see its final season.

Museum Day Tomorrow
hsapiens @ 11:38pm
Tomorrow morning I'm meeting with a friend and we're heading to the local natural science museum. This will be my third time to visit Lucy since she arrived here in Houston. I know that there are legitimate concerns about the safety of the fossil as it travels around the country but I'm still giddy. I didn't think I'd ever see Lucy and now I'll be seeing her for the third time. :)
Also on tomorrow's agenda are a couple of other exhibits: Leonardo Da Vinci and a CSI-forensics style exhibit. It's like they *asked* me what I'd like to see and then put it all together at the same time. The next museum day will be to the MFAH for their Pompeii exhibit.

CONVENTIONS
I've finally accepted that I won't be correcting my photos from 2007 and 2006 and making them all pretty. I have a bunch of photos published in a Coppermine photo gallery, here:
http://www.mishtopia.com/pics/index.p hp?cat=2
Pictures are from the front row, center for New Jersey (2005-2007) and Dallas. All of the 2004 shots are from further back.
(If you're on my Stargate f-list filter on LJ, you already knew about these pics months ago. At the time, I intended to make them all pretty before publicly releasing the links.)

PROMO PICS
If you're looking for those huge, pretty promo pictures for SG-1 that MGM used to release, I have several hundred of them here:
http://www.mishtopia.org/pics/index.p hp?cat=2
I have not uploaded the newest promo pictures that were released for the movies and the additional, new Season 10 promos. If someone wants those, please comment and I'll try to get to that this weekend.

Gifts from the UPS man!
hsapiens @ 12:29pm
I'm holding in my hands (or, you know, WAS before I started typing) Season One DVDs for The Invisible Man! Woot! *does a happy dance*
I pre-ordered it, which means I'd forgotten about it. Getting the message that my DVDs had shipped was like a gift.

Icons: 19 Stock
hsapiens @ 10:23am
I'm trying something new: stock icons. This time around, subject matter is well-known ancient sites (one might term them "iconic" if one were given to making bad puns) and a few modern city views.

huh?

I've somehow broken my IJ already!
When I try to reply to a comment, it tells me that I cannot reply to a deleted comment. But it isn't deleted! I can see it right there! I reloaded, in case I accidentally deleted it but no, it's there. I've tried switching to a default template in case my mucking about with CSS was the cause...no deal. Anyone have any ideas for how I might have broken my IJ?
ETA: And now, all the comments have disappeared from my entry??? I don't think I could do this. Maybe there's something wonky with an IJ server?

New Group for Stargate Icons
hsapiens @ 05:48pm
I've followed through on my threat to create an asylum (would it be a faux pas to call it a comm even if it's on IJ insted of LJ? comm is shorter and easier to type...) for Stargate icons (and other graphics):
stargate_icons
Please feel free to join and to link to old icon posts you've made. The comm is more likely to be successful if it looks lived in. I don't care if you link to posts on IJ, put icons behind a cut, or link to icons posted to your LJ.

Hello to my teeny, tiny f-list!
hsapiens @ 11:55am
It feels so strange to start over.
I hadn't really planned to use this account, I was name-squatting in case fandom really did pick up its tea set and migrate. As time goes on, I'm becoming more convinced that this will happen as a process of attrition. It looks as if LJ will continue to bleed users, most especially fandom users, until critical mass is reached and new members of fandom preferentially register with IJ.
I'm undecided whether to move here lock, stock, and barrel because this utopia seems a lot like LJ used to be and it's subject to sale or changes by the owner. Having someone else host your content, whether it's an automated journal, a discussion board, or something else leaves you vulnerable to the whims of the owner/moderator. I'm wondering if it's worth reviving my WordPress blog and feeding it to this IJ with a plug-in. At least then I'd lose just a distribution system rather than content when this current utopia inevitably changes.
I suppose that I should make a community here, too, and start posting my icons to it so I have a backup. Now I'll have something to do over Easter!
